The Mezz Pro-Am NJ 9 Ball State Championship
was hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, NJon Saturday
September 17th and Sunday September 18th 2016. A strong
field, including the following, came out to play: Jorge
Rodriquez, Dennis Spears, Antonio G, Frankie Hernandez,
Gerard Soriano, Michael Wong, Del Sim, Matt Krah, Byron
Jones, Paul Zu, Justin Toye, and Garry Serrano, to name
a few.
I’d like to thank Ed Liddawi and his wonderful
staff for hosting the event
Leading the top half of the bracket was Antonio G with
wins over Garry Serrano 7-4, Justin Toye 7-2, Dennis
Spears 7-3 and Gerard Soriano 7-5. Leading the bottom
half of the bracket was Jorge Rodriguez with wins over
Jerry Dunne 7-2, JoeSellecchia 7-4, Frankie Hernandez
7-3, and Paul Zu 7-1.
Playing for the hot seat was Antonio G vs. Jorge Rodriguez.
This was a good match that had Jorge Rodriguez pulling
away late in the match to win 7-5 sending Antonio G
to the one lost side.
Waiting for Antonio G on the one-loss side was Dennis
Spears. This was a rematch from earlier that day but
this time it was all Dennis Spears as he took control
from the start and never looked back. He easily won
7-1 to get to the finals.
In the finals, it was Dennis Spears vs. Jorge Rodriguez.
This is a true double elimination event with both set
races to 7, but it only took Jorge Rodriguez one set
to put away Dennis Spears 7-5 to win the match and the
2016 NJ 9 ball State Championships.
We would want to thank all the players that came out
to play as well as sponsors Mezz Cues Miki Co, LTD,
